What a vibe (2018) is Payoh SoulRebel’s first solo LP under the exclusive production of Cool Up Records, a young record label from Seville, formed by Alameda Sound & Legalize Sound, which had recorded two songs separately with Payoh, which never saw the light, after sharing them and seeing the potential of both decided to embark on the creation of their first album. It was clear to them from the very beginning that their artist par excellence could be none other than Payoh SoulRebel, a singer from Madrid whom they consider to be one of the best voices in the country. What a vibe is a tribute to the Jamaican roots music we have grown up with and enjoyed so much. The main style is Roots Reggae with some touches of Rocksteady and early digital from the 80s. The name of the album gives meaning to the energy that comes out of it, from its creation process to the final message it transmits. Love for music, joy and positivity are some of the themes that Payoh SoulRebel sings with great mastery and elegance thanks to his exquisite voice. On the album we find collaborations with two of the most important singers of the Seville Reggae scene such as Tunelon Iration, Burian Fyah and also with the producer Variedub, who for his part is responsible for shaping the only dub version of the album, being a clear commitment to promote and share the human and musical quality that lives in the capital of Seville.
As usual in the work of Cool Up Records, the artwork is the work of the authentic and original Mr John Vanilla, the label’s official art director, who always transmits with his illustrations his peculiar point of view of the work and who on this occasion has the help of Delvina McKinson.
