Inspired by stalwarts from the local scene
plus the UK dub sounds of Aba Shanti,
Shaka and Jah Tubbys, the Lille based
roots reggae sound system Agobun was
launched in 2007. After running for a few
years, in 2016 they started pressing up
their own specials and dubplates before
launching a label. Flo is the main operator,
studio owner and dub engineer, while
Kamel is a poet and reggae enthusiast
stepping forward here to feature on this
impressive debut. The sound has its own
identity, with a much warmer live feeling
than most nu roots, most likely generated
from the need to keep the delivery of
spoken conscious lyrics from Kamel up
front, much like the early dub poets.
France has a healthy enough reggae
market for them to do more that just
survive, but their music deserves to be
heard internationally. »
